The Journey Continues!

The second hostel I stayed at in Fredericton, New Brunswick. There were a lot of foreign exchange college students living there. I met one from Iran.
 My quarters for the night.
 Finally made it!
 Open sky over shadowy pines.
Sunlight just touching down on the far hills.
The skies are pretty epic here in Cape Breton. They changed in the blink of an eye.
My third hostel. Met a lot of Canadians who were staying there for the nearby Celtic Colours Festivals (I'm going to one tomorrow night so I'll have pics up soon).
View from the porch of the hostel overlooking the Bras d'Or.
 Entrance to the hostel.
 The bridge to Boularderie Island.
 Out to the open Atlantic.

Made it to Shushan! This is the Gatehouse where I'll be staying for the next week.
It's surrounded by a lush fern forest.
There are mushrooms everywhere because of the perfectly moist environment.
 Berries...
 amongst berries.

 Symmetrical pine branch.
 Moss-covered log.
 Creek bed.
This looks like a superimposed cartoon butt but it's actually the underbelly of a mushroom attached to the tree.
Moss covered entire acres of the forest.
This mushroom looked like a squashed pumpkin.
 Probably shouldn't eat this one.
 Autumn's just getting here.

This mushroom's surface seemed to be taking on some of it's tree host's attributes.
 Road through the woods.
 Interesting gnarled tree.
It kind of had a face.

 Long beetle-like insect.
Just seeing the Bras d'Or through the trees.
 Beetle lines.

 Oozing fungus.
This is Selah Hall, where I'll be helping build a waterfall.
 Just put up that statue.
 Future waterfall.

 Cabin in the woods.
 The flowers out front.
 Fly having a floral feast.
Found a couple salamanders under the wheelbarrow tarp.
 Huge fiddle in Sydney, NS.

 Cloudy harbor.

 These were almost alien.

Proud to call myself a cousin of Dane.

Here's a little taste of the serenity:

More to come!

  2. Lance, we are so enjoying the pictures of your adventure. Paul and I both sighed independently of each other when we saw the GateHouse. We got to stay there when it wasn't quite done yet and it was still fabulous. And Celtic Colours is happening while you're there, you've hit the jackpot! Anyway love tagging along on your journey through your pics. Jesse

  3. Thanks, Jesse. There's so much to see here, both in the culture and the wilds.

  4. Sorry it took so long to comment, Lance, I couldn't figure out how to do it. Your pictures are amazing, each with a story to tell. Wish we could be there to smell the smells and feel the cool breezes and taste the unique foods. Thanks for sharing the details, we're so excited for you! Soak it up, my boy!! Love you!!
